About the Program
The Morning Glory Employment Training Program is a unique venture designed to teach practical skills and positive work habits to those who have had difficulty maintaining full-time employment. Our commitment to addressing the needs of participants holistically ensures the greatest potential for long-term employment success. Participants gain the confidence and work habits necessary to be of real value to future employers, while accessing the necessary supports to address identified risk factors.
Program Objectives
Community:
- To make a valuable contribution to the downtown Kitchener community by providing a clean, friendly environment for customers.
- To produce excellent food and service while offering excellent value.
Customers:
- To provide a clean, friendly environment for customers to meet, relax and enjoy our products.
- To produce excellent food and service and deliver exceptional value both for walk-in customers and those purchasing our catering services.
Participants:
- To provide a caring atmosphere of acceptance in which participant confidence and dignity is nurtured.
- To ready all participants for work in the community through the development of work ethic and transferable job skills.
- To identify the unique needs and risk areas of individual participants and put into place an action plan to address these needs and risk areas.
- To network with relevant and appropriate community programs enabling access to the widest range of services for participants.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The Morning Glory Employment Training Project accepts candidates who are currently unemployed due to a combination of life-skills deficiencies and a lack of employment experience.
- Candidates can be male or female
- Candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 30.
- Most suitable participants will have special needs in addition to the need to develop basic work skills and competencies. The program is designed to accommodate a variety of special needs.
- Due to the nature of the work and the work environment candidates must be in good physical health.
- All candidates must demonstrate a genuine desire to learn, work and become employable and self-sufficient.
- All candidates must demonstrate that they are willing to be involved in programs that address risk factors identified from the interview and self-assessment process.
- Candidates must be willing to maintain periodic contact for a period of one year after graduating from the program in order to assist in the process of evaluating program success and keeping relevant statistics.
Job Readiness:
Job readiness is the primary objective of the program. Participants are often lacking in basic competencies such as the ability to arrive at work on time, social skills, and good personal hygiene. With patience and compassion all of these issues are addressed. The skill sets that can be developed in the café environment are broad and easily transferable to a number of work environments.
